Paramount Explains The Real Reasons Behind 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Delay

The following contains some spoilers about the movie at the time the movie was set to premiere. These spoilers may change in the final version.

Paramount Pictures gave the excuse for moving G.I. Joe: Retaliation from June 29th to March 29th, 2013 was for 3D reason. Try again Paramount... According to Deadline that even after Paramount threw tons of money into a Super Bowl commercial, TV and outdoor ads and warehouses full of toys. Paramount became 'extremely concerned about G.I. Joe 2‘s box office prospects worldwide after its test scores were mediocre to bad.'

Paramount explained to sources the reasoning behind the delay with G.I. Joe: Retaliation:

The start of the problems deals with Channing Tatum. Paramount saw major problems and knew they had to do something fast. They knew reshoots were needed and realized that killing off Channing Tatum was miscalculated and wrong to do so at the start of the film. Since shooting the first movie, Tatum has grown into a draw with his back-to-back successes in The Vow and 21 Jump Street. Audiences were also upset that they didn’t like the fact that Channing and The Rock really didn’t have any time to develop a friendship before Channing died. Even by looking at the movie poster, no one would know that Tatum is even in the movie. The other problem that Paramount had with the movie is that Tatum is appearing in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike as a stripper and the movie opens also in June.

In the United States, John Carter lost $200M despite the best efforts of the Pixar brain trust but by the 3D conversion of the movie. The 3D film managed to gross over $200M overseas, nearly tripling its U.S. take. Battleship sunk and only pulled in $60M-$70M U.S. and just over $200M international. This was the wake-up call that Paramount said that they needed to offer the best version of the film irrespective of summer market share to ensure the best possible performance. And not being in 3D will cost a ton of business internationally.

Sources have also indicated that G.I. Joe 2 director Jon M. Chu is "shellshocked" over the release date move since Paramount kept him on a very tight leash from the beginning of the production. We can hope that Paramount lets up a little and gives Chu some breathing room to do the reshoots and make this movie worth seeing.

ThunderCats May Yet Still Be On The Loose At Cartoon Network

Ever since ThunderCats failed to appear on Cartoon Network's list of returning shows for 2013 during their Upfront presentation this past March, many fans have been left wondering what the future would hold for the show and the brand. The shows current season came to a end this past June, and yet we continued to hear nothing about whether it would be picked up for another season or not.

The lack of news on a new season and the fact that Bandai, who holds the master toy license for the brand hasn't announced or put out any new product since late last year, has left many fearing the worst.

Today however we have gotten a hold of some possible good news for ThunderCats fans. We have learned that things are still in the works for the series at Cartoon Network, and that an official announcement about it should hopefully be coming soon.

Bandai told us back in June that they were focusing on getting their current products out globally in conjunction with the TV series starting to air internationally, and that the line was not canceled. Hopefully once an official announcement about the television series is made, we will start hearing more about new products for us here in the United States as well.

Let us know, will you be happy to see a new season of ThunderCats on Cartoon Network in 2013????

NECA Obtains Consent Permanent Injunction Against Tree House Kids

National Entertainment Collectibles Association Inc. (NECA) is pleased to announce the entry of a Consent Permanent Injunction in a trademark infringement lawsuit against Tree House Kids, Inc.

In the lawsuit, NECA’s subsidiary WizKids/NECA, LLC (WizKids) alleges that use of the trademark HEROICS by Tree House Kids in connection with the sale of miniature super hero figures infringes WizKids’ rights in its HEROCLIX trademark.

On August 8, 2012, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey issued the Consent Permanent Injunction against TreeHouse Kids, permanently prohibiting Tree House Kids from, among other things, making, using, distributing, selling, displaying, manufacturing, advertising or promoting, products, product packaging, or labeling that use, incorporate or display the trademarks HEROCLIX or HEROICS, or any other trademarks likely to causeconfusion with the HEROCLIX trademark.

“We have invested substantial time and resources to build a world-class intellectual property portfolio that includes the HEROCLIX brand and its considerable goodwill. Protecting that brand is a top priority for us,” says Justin Ziran, President of WizKids. “The lawsuit against Tree House Kids is part of ongoing and comprehensive efforts of NECA and its subsidiaries to aggressively enforce our intellectual property rights. We will continue to take action to protect against intellectual property infringements and counterfeiting,” adds Alexis Mueller, head of Business and Legal Affairs for NECA and its subsidiaries.

The lawsuit, in which WizKids seeks damages, including profits and attorneys fees, arising from Tree House’s alleged infringement of the HEROCLIX trademark, is ongoing. Meanwhile, NECA is committed to identifying and pursuing other infringing activity.

Tree House Kids has renamed their Heroics line ZERBOZ.

DC Comics The Flash New 52 ARTFX+ Statue

A KOTOBUKIYA Japanese import! Kotobukiya's line of DC Comics "New 52" ARTFX+ Statues continues, capturing the new looks and costumes of heroes in the Justice League. Racing to join the previously released Superman and Green Lantern comes the Scarlet Speedster and guardian of the Gem Cities, THE FLASH! Barry Allen was a mild-mannered forensic scientist (who was perpetually late) working late at night in his lab when a bolt of lightning changed his life forever. The electricity and chemicals combined mysteriously to imbue Allen with unbelievable speed and thus the Flash was born!

Not content merely to stand at attention like his fellow Justice Leaguers Superman and Green Lantern, the Flash can't stay still for a moment. Ready to speed off to fight crime or supervillains with a wide-legged stance, Allen cracks his knuckles in anticipation. The Scarlet Speedster's New 52 costume maintains the character's traditional bright red and yellow color scheme but updates it with a bold new lightning bolt logo and intricate energy lines crackling all over his suit. The Flash's excellent sculpt even includes the new technological details of his costume like the reinforced boots.

Standing 7 ½ inches tall (in the ARTFX+ 1/10th scale), the Flash was sculpted by master artist Atelier Bamboo. Magnets in his feet make him perfectly stable on his included display base, and he'll look great on your shelf next to the rest of the Justice League including the upcoming Wonder Woman!

2008 JoeCon: The Parachute Drop

This year's annual G.I.Joe parachute drop took place this morning at the Embassy Suits hotel here in Frisco Texas where the convention is taking place. Fans gathered all around as other fans dropped Sky B.A.T. parachute figures off the 15th floor of the hotel down to the lobby below. Afterwards kids ran in and tried to pick up as many of the fallen figures as they could. Check out images of the event in our IMAGE GALLERY below and check back later this afternoon for more coverage from the convention, including a look at what Hasbro has in store for the rest of this year and into 2009.

2008 JoeCon: Hasbro Marketing: 2008 Mainline Projects

Here are the highlights from today's Hasbro panel at the G.I.Joe Convention.

- Tomorrow they will unveil something big for the Spring 2009. Something you thought you would never seen.

- Hasbro thanks you for your loyalty to the 25th Anniversary line.

- They (Hasbro) are all fans to; they read the boards and your questions.

- Big questions???? Will Hasbro release the last of the original 13 before the movie? YES.

- Where is Quick Kick? He is here.

- Large vehicles, will they do them? Can't promise a Flagg or Terrordrome, but there will be some large ones on the way.

- What happens to the 25th Anniversary Line in 2009?

- Not much new for the movie will be shown at this convention, but it will be awesome. Filming is complete!

- The movie will be an origin type story. We will see things like the origin of Cobra Commander and lots of ninja action From Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow. According to Hasbro the movie will rock.

- Movie toys will be 3 3/4" scale with many familiar characters that have new looks.

- In 2008 Duke (Tiger Force) will be coming out. He will have fixed arms.

- Mercenary Wraith from the DDP comic book series is coming. There will also be a transparent variant figure.

- Mutt and Junkyard, Cobra Para-Viper and Croc Master are on the way as well.

- The Pyramid of Darkness DVD set will come with Major Bludd, Quick Kick, Cobra Commander and Snake-Eyes. The Arise Serpentor Arise DVD set will come with Dusty, Classic Serpentor, a B.A.T. and a skeleton figure.

- For 12" figures we will see Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow and Torpedo. Also Look for Duke, Cobra Commander and Beach Head.

- Also on tap for 2008 will be the new Combat Heroes 2-packs. Look for Snake-Eyes/Zartan and Bazooka/Firefly.

- If a Terrordrome were to be made then the Firebat would be able to fit in it according to Hasbro.

- The line that we know today as the 25th Anniversary will be put on hold while the movie toys come out. We will continue to see characters that are familiar in the same sculpting style as the current line but with more of a movie look. We may however see some exclusives and such during that period with a more classic feel.

- EA is working on a G.I.Joe movie video game. EA is working very closely with Hasbro on it. They are taking some of the storylines and putting them in the game but it's not like you have to go watch the movie and then play the movie. No word if its a first person shooter yet or not.

Panel ends.

2008 JoeCon: Hasbro Panel Day 2

Here are highlights from today's Hasbro Panel at the 2008 G.I.Joe convention.

- The panel starts off with Hasbro showing off a 1 minute preview of a new animated G.I.Joe cartoon that will debut next year as web-episodes on Hasbro's G.I.Joe website. These will be about 5 minute episodes and is geared more towards adults then kids. The preview they showed is of Snake-Eyes saving Duke and Roadblock from a Cobra ambush in the jungle. Snake-Eyes is shown actually killing Cobra Soldiers, though the actual killing is off-screen you know those soldiers are dead

- The cartoon is titled "G.I.Joe Resolute" and is produced by Sam Register, Written by Warren Ellis, Directed by Joaqui, Dos Santos and lead animation is by David Johnson.

- We can expect to see classic vehicles like the Flagg and have gone all out on the animation.

- Charlie Evans is doing the voice of Cobra Commander. He did the voice of Low Light in the original G.I.Joe cartoon.

- There are ten 5 minute segments with one 10 minute finale. They hope to then eventually show it in full on someplace like Cartoon Network or DVD's.

- Dan Norton is one of the background artists for this series. They showed art of the Flagg morgue, the U.N., and The G.I.Joe situation room.

- They use real life equipment like a stratellite.

- The Flagg has a more updated look. The bridge is round and the whole design is sleeker.

- They have new Jetpacks. You can go to youtube and look up something called jetpack man and see something that looks like the ones the Joe's will use. The Skystriker is based on an YF-22 now

- They tried to keep the color schemes from the classic characters for each of the characters. They showed Duke, Gung-Ho (chest is covered), Lady Jaye with a hat, Scatlett, Tunnel Rat, Storm Shadow who looks like a combination of V1 and V2.

- We could see something similar for other Hasbro brands like Transformers if this cartoon does well. It was said this is the direction they would like to head in with all their brands. However they did not say a Transformers cartoon was guaranteed to happen by any means.

- Lady Jaye will be kind of like Starbuck from the new BSG.

- Destro, Baroness, Cobra Commander among others will be characters we see. Cobra Commander is serious and ruthless in this series. He kills a baby seal in the first episode (Possibly said as a joke to underscore his ruthlessness).

- Characters could die in this series.

- There will be little to no blood shown, essentially this cartoon will be rated PG-13.

- This series will debut in the 1st qrt of 2009.

- The episodes are somewhat self-contained with an overall story-arc that goes throughout the series.

- There will be some toys based on this series coming in 2009.

- Duke is pretty much in charge of the team and Flint will be the second in command. There is not going to be much focus on behind the desk leaders in this series. What you knew of Duke in the past may not be the same as what this Duke will be. Warren Ellis tried to improve characters where he thought it was needed.

- The guns shoot bullets in this series and not lasers.

- That is it for cartoon news, now on to toys.

- 2008 will have a lot of exclusives. These will be out around October/November 2008.

- TRU exclusive Crimson Guard Trooper 5- Pack without removable helmets. (Crimson Guard Immortal and 4 Crimson Guardsmen)

- TRU exclusive Firefly vs. Green Shirts 5-pack. (Firefly and 4 different green shirt soldiers)

- TRU exclusive Air Command (Starduster who is now called Skyduster and a new Wild Bill and Ace)

- TRU exclusives Naval Command (Cutter, Yellow Torpedo, articulated Deep Six)

- TRU exclusives Destro Iron Grenadier (regular Grenaider, Destro and purple Grenaider which is a tribute to Voltar)

- They are upping production quantities for many of these products and will try to have them in stock at HasbroToyShop.

- Target exclusives will have a blue Rattler with Wild Weasel and a Conquest X-30 with Slipstream. Also look for a set that includes

- A big set is coming with a motorized Mobat with Steeler vs. a Crimson HISS tank and a blue Trouble Bubble.

- Adventure Team figures with accessories will be coming as Wal-Mart exclusives.

- There will be online exclusive sets. An arctic set with arctic Scrap Iron and Snow Serpents and a Desert Set with a new Major Bludd. There should be a regular Scrap Iron coming in a comic pack as well.

- G.I.Joe Mighty Muggs are coming. Look for Destro, Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow.

2008 JoeCon: G.I.Joe Collector's Club Roundtable

Brian Savage held his annual Collector's Club roundtable panel today. Here are a few highlights from what was announced. By request no images from this panel will be shown.

- The final wave of 3 3/4" DTC figures will be finally released through the Collector Club in the 3rd and 4th qrts. There will be two waves split into 4 figures each. No word on price for these yet. Here is what you can expect to get:

Outback (black shirt)
Lt. Falcon
Cobra Officer (Now with silver Cobra Symbol)
Cobra Night Viper (Now with Night Viper Symbol on arm)
Munitia (Now with blue gun belt instead of purple and a black Cobra symbol on chest)
Airtight
Python Patrol Copperhead (Repaint of the Club's regular Copperhead)

- Brian Savage would like to do a 3 3/4" line of Adventure Team members. We could see some vehicles for this line and a comic that sort of tells a story that connects 12" mythos with that of 3 3/4". Dr. Venom would be the character that would connect the two era's.

- For the 3 3/4" figures they would take the 12" heads and scan them down to 3 3/4" scale however they would likely not be flocked.

- The 12" Magnum Power figure is coming

- The Club plans to bring back the old "Lost Talker" series of G.I.Joe Action Marine figures. They will have the original voices but now include two additional phrases for each figure.

- Look for this year's 12" Club figure to be the Adventure Team Commander. The figure will come in just his underwear and a tee-shirt. You will need to buy an additional accessory pack to get his uniform and box.

- The 3 3/4" Club figure will be one of Destro's frogmen Undertow. The figure will fit in with the 2005 Con exclusive M.A.R.S. Invades box set.

- When asked about the date for next year's con, Brian stated it was not set yet, but would likely take place right before the movie. The same goes for next year's Transformers Botcon and that both conventions would likely be about 6 weeks apart from one another.

NYCC 2011 - New Transformers Universe Screenshots from Jagex Show Off Brawlers In Action; Female Bot Modes

Update: We have posted the screen grabs from the trailer as well as other character designs. Check out the gallery for all of them.

During our preview night at New York Comic Con 2011, we had the chance to see a trailer of the new Transformers Universe browser-based massively multiplayer online (MMO) game from Jagex and have some screenshots from the trailer. Like the previous two trailers, they are not in-game and are very stylized.

We were also able to speak with Jagex representatives during our New York Comic Con 2011 preview night where we learned that the game starts out on Earth but left open the possibility of moving onto other planets as well.

Each robot is very customizable as we saw during BotCon 2011, and each robot is able to level up in robot and vehicle modes.

In addition, Jagex told us that game's engine was built from scratch using Java and since it is browser-based, it will be for ages 13 and up.

We may also get to hear celebrity voice actors like Peter Cullen featured in this game.

Also, be happy that Humans will not really play a large role in this game this time around. So more robot mayhem.

Hit up the gallery for a highlight of the screenshots and the Source link for all of them.

Transformers Universe is set for a 2012 release for PC and Mac browsers.

Kirk & Spock Set To Battle The Gorn In New Star Trek Video Game

Paramount Pictures and leading video game publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today gave fans the first look at the key villain to be featured in the upcoming Star Trek™ video game inspired by J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009) film reboot. The announcement made at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), revealed that a legendary lizard-like race known in Trek lore as “The Gorn” will play the destructive and villainous role in the video game releasing in early 2013. The co-op game is based on a standalone storyline that continues the adventure of iconic characters Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock as they work together to stop the Gorn, an enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.

“The Gorn are among the most iconic villians in the Star Trek universe and their role in this game certainly lives up to that persona ,” said Brian Miller, Senior Vice President at Paramount Pictures and lead game producer. “Kirk and Spock find themselves in an incredibly challenging amount of mayhem as they confront the Gorn throughout the game.”

More than just lizard-skinned foes, the Gorn are a blood-thirsty race determined to conquer the galaxy. A true military dictatorship, the Gorn are made up of billions of self-sacrificing warriors across thousands of colonies, each focused on the conquest of alien races. By utilizing their chaos-causing infectious venom, the Gorn seed mayhem and destruction as they destroy populations and deplete planets of their resources.

"Great villains give our favorite characters a chance to become heroes in the process of attempting to eliminate a powerful threat, and Star Trek fans have been eagerly anticipating the moment when the antagonists of the game would be revealed," said Carlson Choi, VP of Marketing at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. “This is one of those moments and we couldn’t be more excited to give gamers a glimpse at the challenges that lie ahead for Kirk and Spock.”
The Gorn range in size and abilities, infecting their foes with venom that can poison, cause hallucinations, and even kill. From the smaller infantry Gorn Rushers, to the larger Gorn Warriors and the massive Gorn Brutes, the Gorn provides a serious direct threat, while the wall-climbing Gorn females showcase the cunning for which this race is feared. Technologically capable and possessing the antithesis of Federation ideals, the Gorn pose a devastating threat to Starfleet, the Enterprise, and its crew.

With a storyline occurring after the events of J.J. Abram’s 2009 Star Trek reboot, the Star Trek video game puts players in the shoes of seminal heroes Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, inviting them to work together to take on the ferocious Gorn in this epic action adventure. Built from the ground up as the ultimate co-op experience, players are set on a journey of immense proportions across unexplored planets and enemy battleships with the latest 23rd century weapons and gear. Kirk and Spock’s complementary personalities result in the most fully realized and varied co-op experience for this console generation.

Under a license from CBS Consumer Products, the game is being developed by Ontario-based developer Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2, Unreal Tournament, Dark Sector, The Darkness II) with production being overseen by Paramount Pictures and a scheduled release in early 2013 for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC.

Attendees of E3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center June 5-7 can see a live demonstration of the Star Trek gam e and take photos in the Enterprise captain’s chair at the NAMCO BANDAI Games Booth # 1637 (located in the South Hall).
